Six good reasons to visit France in 2024

What if we talked about holidays? Anything planned in 2024? If not, it’s the perfect time to think about it and check out the official France Explore website listing the best reasons to plan a trip to France during the Summer Olympic Games 2024. According to the website, 100 years after the last Olympic Games organised in France, Paris is already preparing with a concrete ambition: to fulfil the new needs of the audience, and especially the younger generations.

Since August 2021, the city of Paris has officially become the host city of the Summer Olympic Games 2024. In this not-so-distant prospect, France is doing everything possible to host the sport events, as well as the festivities linked to this major international competition.

Highlights worth the trip

In all the good reasons to come and attend the Paris Olympic Games, the France Explore website listed all the things considered worth the trip:

- true proximity: many of the games will be set up in the very heart of the capital and close to its monuments, on unexpected sites “that evoke both its history and its future”: for example, the avenue des Champs-Élysées will become a cycling track, the esplanade of the Champs de Mars will be transformed into a beach volleyball court and the Seine into a swimming pool, while the triathlon will be organised under the Eiffel Tower...

- sustainability rationale: the plan is to make maximum use of existing infrastructures and to build only the necessary facilities. The Olympic Games should then be sustainable, “by offsetting carbon emissions and favouring ecofriendly solutions, particularly in the areas of transport, food and energy”;

- another view of travels in France: the city of Paris will certainly be at the centre of the Games, but feel free to travel around the country, from metropolitan France to the overseas territories, to attend other competitions: Marseille will host the sailing events, football will be present in Bordeaux, Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Nice, Nantes and Marseille, the handball events will take place in Lille and the surfing events will take place “on one of the most beautiful spots in the world”, the Teahupo’o wave in Tahiti;

- more active participation: for the first time in Olympic history, according to the Explore France website, “events will be organised for the general public, who will be able to take part in the marathon (over several distances, for experienced runners and beginners, young and old, able-bodied and disabled) and road cycling will be open to the general public”;

- An opportunity to party and access culture: the atmosphere surrounding the Olympic Games promises memorable moments “in the excitement of a unique event”, says Explore France. Culture and festivities will be at the heart of the festivities, in a “rationale of mixing disciplines, which will highlight young talent, emerging trends and the mixing of world cultures”.

- affordable ticketing: more than 13 million tickets will go on sale at prices starting at 24 euros. In addition, in the interests of fairness, the ticketing system will be 100% digital and accessible to everyone, worldwide.

A new platform to simplify tourism in France

Had enough? Your mind is made up? But there’s more than good reasons to choose to come to France in 2024: a trip must be prepared! To this end, at the beginning of the year, the French Ministry of the Economy launched the Alentour platform, which will simplify your trip even more. This new site connects suppliers of cultural and leisure activities directly with tourist accommodation. The concept is simple: to offer travellers a complete digital catalogue of local leisure activities in France, free of charge, in such a way as to make the process much simpler. No need to do a lot of research online, nor to download all the brochures from tourist offices to find a tourist or leisure activity in France. If you have chosen your destination and your place of residence, everything is simpler. You’re just a few clicks away from all the local resources at hand.

Finally, note that, according to the promotional website Atout France, and despite the current health and geopolitical context, France as a destination and the desire to go on holiday in France have once again become strong for international customers. The attractiveness of France as a destination for international travellers is confirmed with an average increase of 15 to 20 points in travel intentions in the coming months and advance booking rates.

In short, everything is ready for you to visit France!
