Fête de la Musique Newtown 2015 Fête de la Musique Newtown 2015 The 2015 Fête de la Musique took place in Johannesburg’s Newtown Precinct on Saturday 27 June 2015.
Presented by the Alliance Française of JHB, the French Institute of South Africa (Ifas), Newtown Junction and Bassline, the Fête de la Musique in Johannesburg has established itself as one of the fastest growing festival brands in South Africa. Drawing 5 000 people in 2012, 8 000 people in 2013 and 10 000 people in 2014, the event moved its new home at Newtown Junction in the heart of downtown Joburg in 2015.
arious stakeholders from the greater Newtown Cultural Precinct area were involved in multiple live performances and programming activities spread throughout the day, and all came together at the exciting Newtown Junction precinct. The Bassline, The Market Theatre, Artist Proof Studio, The Dance Corner, The Market Photo Workshop, Sci Bono Centre and others organisations participated in this annual and uniquely free celebration of music and culture. The event was supported by Total South Africa, MoneyGram and Société Générale.
The 4th edition of Fête de La Musique promoted musical diversity and showcased a broad mix of music ranging from pop, rock, hip-hop, jazz, traditional and even to brass band music. The line-up included Jaojoby (Madagascar), Benjamin Piat (France), Grèn Sémé (France/Reunion Island) as well as rising stars of African music BCUC, The Muffinz and Bongeziwe Mabandla and newcomers including Coal Train Band, Go Barefoot, Pilani Bubu, Motsatsing and the Rays, The African Ambassadors Brothers, Zetina Mosia, Maria Mombelli and the Belly Buttions, Amandla Freedom Ensemble and The Meerkat Mob.
